Correspondence, speeches, newspaper clippings, subject files, photographs, card file, and scrapbook, chiefly relating to Mrs. Moore's activities while first lady of North Carolina; together with material relating to her private involvement with various programs and organizations and her work on the book, The First Ladies of North Carolina (1987). Executive papers subseries include Project files relating to her state beautification program, the First Lady's Sites and Scenes Tour which in 1966 traveled across North Carolina promoting tourism and state beautificiation, the Chapel of the Nameless Woman at the North Carolina Woman's Correctional Center, Raleigh, N.C., the Executive Mansion Fine Arts Commission created by Mrs. Moore in 1965, a proposed fine arts festival, North Carolina libraries; and the North Carolina School of the Arts and Foundation; Subject files; Political correspondence; General correspondence; Accepts, regrets, and thank yous; and Mansion entertainment. Secretary's papers series includes lists and schedules kept by Mrs. Moore's secretary while in the governor's mansion, Mrs. Carrie Gardiner. First ladies project papers include correspondence, clippings, reminiscences, card files with biographical data, and other materials used for the book The First Ladies of North Carolina and are arranged alphabetically by surname of the subject. Photographs and scrapbook series includes mostly candid shots whether of family scenes or functions at the executive mansion and the scrapbook reflects Mrs. Moore's private life at the executive mansion. Personal papers includes Private correspondence subseries (1964-1975) including not only letters from family and friends but portions of a series of diaries (1965-1968, incomplete) kept by Mrs. Moore and the Subject correspondence subseries containing information and correspondence on programs and organizations in which she was active in a private capacity including files relating to her work with the North Carolina Fund, Asheville Orthopedic Hospital, and Sir Walter Cabinet.
